Mitchell Corey Obituary

MACOMB, IL – A funeral mass for Western Illinois University Military Science Professor Emeritus Mitchell Corey will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb.
Corey, 88, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10 in Macomb. Visitation will be one hour prior to the mass at the church. Burial will be at the VA Cemetery in Augusta, ME.
Corey was the second chair of the Department of Military Science at Western, serving from 1970-73. He entered the U.S. Army in 1952, and saw service in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. Before coming to Western, Corey served tours of duty in Oklahoma, Colorado, North Carolina, California, New York, and Washington D.C.
Corey's final military service was as a professor of military science at Western. He graduated from the Higgins Classical Institute in Charleston, Maine in 1946, and Ricker College in Houlton, Maine in 1951.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; two daughters, Michele and Caron; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.
