CBT Professional Development Series Continues Through Sept. 22

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's College of Business and Technology (CBT) will host the annual Professional Development Series through Sept. 22.

Students are invited to register for the more than 20 sessions offered that are designed to prepare students for the job search and a career in business. 

The schedule includes: 

Thursday, Sept. 14

5-7 p.m. in the University Union Lamoine Room – Etiquette Dinner, presented by Susan Creasey, assistant professor in the WIU Department of Management and Marketing – In this session, students will learn dining etiquette for a professional setting. Reservations and professional dress are required. The cost is $10 per person. Pay in the dean's office in Stipes Hall, room 101. 

Monday, Sept. 18
9–9:50 a.m. or 10–10:50 a.m. in Stipes Hall 121 – "Make a Name for Yourself – Build Your Personal Brand," presented by Ryan Riggins, assistant vice president-lending, MidAmerica National Bank – Learn what you should do now to build a positive personal brand.

2–2:50 p.m. in Stipes Hall 121 – "Surviving your First Day at a New Job," presented by Bruce Western, instructor in the WIU Department of Management and Marketing- Learn what you should do on the first day of your new job.

Tuesday, Sept. 19
12:30–1:45 p.m. in Stipes Hall 121 – "Get Ready to Retire," presented by Lauren Barrett and Leah O'Neill, financial advisors – Learn what you can do today to prepare for retirement.

2–3:15 p.m. in Stipes Hall 121 – "Conflict Management," presented by Karen Sears, chair of the WIU Department of Psychology – expect to explore a variety of aspects about conflict that happens in the workplace.

Wednesday, Sept. 20
11–11:50 a.m. in Stipes Hall 101 – "Phone Etiquette and Preparing for Phone Interviews," presented by Norm Newman, general manager and Jason Gardner, recruiter- mastering telephone etiquette.

1–4 p.m. in the University Union Brattain Lounge – "Meet the Firms" - This event is a great opportunity for students to network with firm representatives.

1–4:30 p.m. in the University Union Grand Ballroom – Supply Chain Management Day – networking opportunities.

5–7 p.m. in the University Union Lamoine Room – Dinner with employer representatives, students and faculty/staff. Reservations required.

Thursday, Sept. 21
Noon-12:50 p.m. in Knoblauch Hall 105 – Engineering Technology Employer Panel- join a group of employers for a panel discussion and gain insight on what they look for in a successful candidate.

3-4:45 p.m. in Stipes Hall 121 – School of Agriculture Alumni/Employer Panel – Learn what these career professionals recommend you do now to be prepared for your job search.

Friday, Sept. 22
Stipes Hall Lobby – Professional Development Series Celebration – Enjoy free treats as we celebrate the success of the 2017 College of Business and Technology Professional Development Series.
