Dads' Day Oct. 28 at WIU

MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University will celebrate "Dads' Day" Saturday, Oct. 28 with a variety of activities planned. Dads and other family members are invited to campus for a day filled with activities designed to accommodate relatives and their students.

This year's schedule includes:

Saturday, Oct. 28:

• 9 a.m.-noon: High ropes course at Horn Field Campus, 985 China Road. The first-come, first served event is $10 per person. Youth ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and closed-toe shoes are required.

• 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Tailgate games on the east side of the Student Recreation Center. Games will include bags, ladder golf, bocce ball and more.

• 10 a.m.: Make a Difference Day, University Union Lamoine Room. Join Western's All Volunteer Effort (WAVE) in participating in the country's largest single-day of volunteering. Spend a couple hours serving at sites around campus or in the Macomb community. Free transportation and lunch will be provided. To participate, register on Purple Post until Sunday, Oct. 22.

• 1 p.m.: Leatherneck football, Hanson Field. The Leathernecks will host the South Dakota State University Jackrabbits. Tailgating starts four hours prior to kick-off at in Q-Lot adjacent to the field. All WIU students receive free admission with their student identification, and game tickets can be purchased at bit.ly/2elMsdA or by calling (309) 298-1190.

• 6-11 p.m.: Haunted Housing in Thompson Hall. This event will also be held Friday, Oct. 27. Haunted Housing is an annual haunted house event put on by WIU's Resident Assistant Council. The event is located in the Thompson hall lobby and features the haunted house on the residence hall's 18th floor. The entry fee is $3 per person and all proceeds are donated to local charities.

• 7-8 p.m.: Dad Joke Open Mic Competition, University Union Sandburg Lounge. The free event will give dads an opportunity to tell some clean, family friendly and funny "dad jokes." Prizes will be give out to the best joke-tellers and free food will be served.

• 8 p.m.: Movie "Get Hard," starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart, University Union Sandburg Theatre.
