Four WIU Students Awarded the William H. and Eva Little Graham Libraries Student Assistant Scholarships

MACOMB, IL - Four students have been named the recipients of the 2017-18 William H. and Eva Little Graham Libraries Student Assistant Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to Western Illinois University students currently employed by University Libraries (Curriculum, Malpass, Music, Physical Sciences or WIU-QC Libraries) who have demonstrated excellence in the performance of their assignment. The $500 scholarship is applied to the student's tuition.

This year's winners of the Graham Scholarship include Avilashchary Maroju, a graduate student in computer science from Hyderabad, India; Molly Cameron, a senior English major from Ellisville, IL; Jessika Runquist, a junior communication sciences and disorders major from Plymouth, IL; and Taylor Runquist, a junior history major from Plymouth, IL.

Maroju is a student employee in the Government Documents Unit of Malpass Library. He works with the preservation of library materials. His supervisor (Andrea Francis) noted, "He is a hard worker who is reliable and always gets his tasks done. He is always happily looking for new ways to help."

Cameron is a student employee in the Access Services Unit of Malpass Library. She works at both the Access Services Desk and the Information Desk and directly assists patrons in using Malpass Library. Cameron is also the SGA representative to the Library Leadership Board. Her supervisor (Greg Phelps) said, "She is excellent with patrons. If she can't help someone, she will find someone who can."

Jessika Runquist is a student employee in the Digitization/Information Systems Unit of Malpass Library. She works with scanned documents and publications (such as the Western Courier) and edits for accuracy. Her supervisor (Julia Thompson) remarked, "She is very careful and precise in helping to edit the metadata of the material after it is scanned. It is important that she find and add to the item record what is on each scanned page so that people can locate the item when they are searching in the future."

Taylor Runquist is a student employee in the Library Administration Office. She has also worked in the Curriculum Library, Digitization/Information Systems and Acquisitions/Cataloging. Her supervisor (Lora Adcock) noted, "Taylor is very helpful in getting tasks done in the Dean's Office. She is very good at project managemen, and she also is good at dealing with visitors to the Dean's Office and helping them get what they need."

"These four student employees are representative of the high caliber of the students who work in all five WIU Libraries," said University Libraries Dean Michael Lorenzen. "We are very fortunate to have them."
