MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University Academic Advisor Molly Homer, of the Centennial Honors College, has been named the Academic Advisor of the Month for October.

Homer was nominated for the honor by two WIU faculty members.

"We continue to marvel at the manner in which Dr. Homer advises Honors students," the two nominators said. "She is always friendly and engaging and takes the time to learn every student's name and interests. For many students, Dr. Homer's office is a safe haven from the anxieties and pressures associated with the high expectations of honors students. She puts them at ease, always encourages them to do their best and enjoys learning about their experiences. This is what good advising is about."

The nominators added that Homer plays a vital role in promoting the Honors program in a variety of ways.

"She never missed Discover Western events and has developed specials Honors promotional programs at each SOAR event," they said. "Dr. Homer has taken the lead role in the fall and spring on-campus recruiting events."

The nomination letter also included a variety of comments about Homer's guidance from Honors students.

Each month a WIU advisor will be honored with a certificate and trophy. Award winners are decided by a committee that considers the applications each month.
