MACOMB, IL -- You have the rest of your life to live off campus ... live life on.

Housing renewal for current Western Illinois University students wishing to live on campus for the 2018-2019 academic year will begin Friday, Jan. 26. Students will receive their individual renewal time via their WIU email Monday, Jan. 22.

University Housing and Dining Services (UHDS) is offering a variety of different housing options for the 2018-2019 academic year, including:

• $1,000 credit ($500/semester) for any junior, senior or graduate student residing in Lincoln or Washington halls

• A community for students 21 years of age and older in Washington Hall

• More single room availability in all halls

• Double room options in Washington and Lincoln halls

Again this year, UHDS will offer "group moves," in which groups of six or more students can request housing on the same residence hall floor (requests open Jan. 31), "open housing," which allows students of the opposite sex to room together; and an optional meal plan in Lincoln and Washington halls.

Based on where students wish to live, and the number of semester hours accrued, students will be assigned renewal times on the following schedule:

• Same hall/same room (for qualified students): Jan. 26-29
• Same hall/different room (for qualified students): Jan. 30
• Group moves: Jan. 31
• Graduate students/seniors: Feb. 1
• Juniors: Feb. 2
• Sophomores: Feb. 5
• Freshmen: Feb. 6-7
• Open renewal: Feb. 8-28

A number of events centered around renewal will be hosted this semester, including:

• Roommate Mixers for those looking for a roommate for the next year:
- Mixer 1 (Monday, Jan. 22, 8-9 p.m.) Thompson Hall E-Classroom
- Mixer 2 (Tuesday, Jan. 23, 8-9 p.m.) Tanner Circle
- Mixer 3 (Wednesday, Jan.24, 8-9 p.m.) Corbin-Olson E-Classroom

• "View and Renew" Open Houses for those wanting to see rooms in Lincoln, Washington, Grote, Thompson, Corbin and Olson halls will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25.

• UHDS Housing Ambassadors will host scheduled tours of the upper-division residence halls starting Wednesday, Jan. 17. Tours, by appointment, can be scheduled by calling (309) 298-3000.

• Housing staff will be available during special tabling events within the residence halls and on specific dates in the University Union throughout January and February to answer questions about housing renewal and on-campus living.

"Over this past year, UHDS has strategically assessed the demands of our students and worked to develop housing options that are flexible and affordable for our on-campus population," said Associate Vice President for Student Services and Director of Housing John Biernbaum.

Students who are not required to live on campus, and wish to cancel their housing contract, must do so by Thursday, March 1 to avoid a contract breakage fee.
