WIU Students, Alumni Named Finalists in National Broadcasting Competition

MACOMB, IL – Eight Western Illinois University students and alumni have been named finalists for the National Broadcasting Society's (NBS) annual competition. The award winners will be announced during the NBS convention in March in Washington, DC, which will be attended by WIU Broadcasting and Journalism Instructor Jasmine Crighton and several students.

Additional competition finalists could be named at a later date.

The list of WIU finalists includes:

• John Benedeck, a senior broadcasting major from McHenry, IL - Category 161 - Audio Podcast: "Pilot Episode - Epistemology: The Art of Conversation."

- Benedeck - Category 161 - Audio Podcast: "Episode 2 - Post-literacy vs. Illiteracy."

• Danny Frey, a 2017 broadcasting graduate from Springfield, IL - Category 222 - Video Sports Segment: "NEWS3: Live at 4 Sports Report - Oct. 24, 2017."

- Frey - Category 294 - Live Sports Production: "WIU Women's Basketball Play-by-Play."

• Michael Dion, a sophomore broadcasting major from Kankakee, IL - Category 224 – Video Sports Play-By-Play Programming: "Michael Dion: Western Illinois Versus Eastern Illinois basketball on ESPN3."

• Cora English, a 2017 broadcasting graduate from Bushnell, IL - Category 231 - Video Drama Program: "Crazy Mind."

• Emily Kenney, a junior broadcasting major from Farmington, IL; Baylee Brynteson, a senior broadcasting major from Woodstock, GA; Benedeck and Nick Gehricke, a sophomore broadcasting major from Saint Charles, MO - Category 242 - Video Promos: "Get To Know The NEWS3 Team."

• Kenney and Brynteson - Category 242 - Video Promos: "WIU Promo."

• Kenney and Benedeck - Category 254 - Video Editing: "Perfection Isn't Real."
