MACOMB, IL – John F. Kennedy High School senior Samantha Bennett, of Cedar Rapids, IA, has been awarded a Western Illinois University President's Scholarship, which covers four years of tuition, fees and a residence hall room and meal plan at the school.

"I chose Western because of the incredibly friendly faculty and students I encountered on campus," said Bennett. "It was really easy to picture myself building relationships and enjoying myself at WIU."

At Western, Bennett plans to major in mathematics or chemistry, and to participate in the Centennial Honors College, the Student Government Association and the University's Film Club.

In high school, Bennett participated in theatre, speech team, art, tennis, soccer, band and the National Honor Society, as well as spending one year as her school's mascot.

To qualify for the WIU President's Scholarship, students must have a minimum ACT score of 30, or minimum SAT score of 1390, and been awarded WIU's Centennial Commitment Scholarship. The scholarship decision is also weighted by the proof of volunteer and community service.
