Nikki Giovanni WIU Keynote Rescheduled for March 1

MACOMB, IL – The Black History Month keynote address by American poet, writer, activist and educator Nikki Giovanni has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, March 1 in the University Union Heritage Room. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Born Yolande Cornelia Giovanni Jr. in Knoxville, TN, and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Giovanni attended Fisk University, and graduated with honors. She has been a part of Virginia Tech's faculty since 1987, and was named a University Distinguished Professor.

Giovanni has received hundreds of awards for her writing, activism and performance in the academic world; including seven NAACP awards and four "Woman of the Year" awards from Ebony magazine, the Ladies Home Journal and others.

The WIU Black History Month presentation is open free to the public. The address is sponsored by the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center.
