MACOMB, IL -- In just five short years, Western Illinois University Dance Marathon has raised nearly $270,000, and if dreams come true this weekend and the $150,000 goal for 2018 is met, nearly half-a-million dollars will be raised in total by the WIU student organization.

The fifth annual WIU Dance Marathon gets underway at noon, Saturday, Feb. 24. WIU students, faculty and staff, community residents and Children's Miracle Network Hospital families will join together at the event, which raises funds for Children's Miracle Network hospitals' St. Louis Children's Hospital and SSM Health Cardinal Glennon.

Members of the University and area communities are invited to participate in the WIU Dance Marathon, which runs from noon to midnight Feb. 24. The 12-hour event honors the 12-hour shifts of doctors and nurses, as well as children who are unable to stand. A community hour will be held from 3-5 p.m.

"We cannot say enough about our students who organize this event," said Nick and Ashley Katz, Dance Marathon advisers. "It's an incredibly emotional and uplifting event, and it means so much to the families whose children have been treated at Children's Miracle Network Hospitals."

This year's goal is $150,000. Donations are welcome, and may be made by visiting tinyurl.com/wiudm18 or emailing dancemarathon@wiu.edu. Last year's event raised $123,200.
