MACOMB, IL -- National Athletic Training Month will be commemorated at Western Illinois University during the month of March. The celebration is held every March to spread awareness about the important work of athletic trainers.

The 2018 slogan is "Compassionate Care for All."
The WIU Athletic Training Student Association is creating a display in Brophy Hall for the month to recognize our local alumni athletic trainers, as well as WIU's current athletic training students and staff, and the various settings/patient populations that they provide compassionate care to.

Events planned during March include:

• March 1 - To kick off National Athletic Training Month, athletic training students (Kelly Crowley, Colton Schieber and Charysse Berkowski) and Athletic Training Program Director Renee Polubinsky, will volunteer their time and expertise at the High School District 230 Sports Medicine Symposium at Moraine Valley Community College, in Palos Hills, IL.

• March 2 - Athletic training students, staff and faculty will be recognized by Macomb Mayor Mike Inman at 2:30 p.m. at City Hall with an official government proclamation to commemorate March as National Athletic Training Month.'

• March 7 - The Athletic Training Student Association will roll out a crowdfunding video to promote the profession, WIU's athletic training program, and raise funds for a renovation to the athletic training student learning resource center.
