MACOMB, IL - The Western Illinois University Chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi will host a book drive Monday, March 19-Monday, April 16, as part of the National Phi Kappa Phi organization's fifth annual Book Drive Competition: Stock the Shelf.

Since the creation of Phi Kappa Phi's annual book drive competition, more than 35,000 books have been collected and donated to local, national and international organizations.

All of the books collected by the WIU Phi Kappa Phi chapter will be donated to organizations in Macomb such as, Heartland Health Care Center, Wesley Village Health Care Center, the WIU Infant and Preschool Center and the free little libraries at the YMCA, Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Macomb, Edison School, Library Annex and Lincoln School.

Last year, the WIU Phi Kappa Phi chapter collected more than 1,100 books and placed fourth in the nationwide competition. The prize for fourth place was a free little library which was donated to Edison School to help encourage students to explore the wonders of reading.

Free little libraries are freestanding boxes where anyone can donate or borrow books with the goal of promoting literacy throughout communities. This year, the goal of the WIU chapter is to collect more than 1,500 books.

Anyone who would like to help the WIU Phi Kappa Phi chapter spread the love of learning in the Macomb community should consider donating new or lightly-used books. There will be book drop of sites in all of WIU's academic buildings and at Macomb City Hall.
