Crighton Honored by National Media Organizations for Work at WIU

MACOMB, IL -- Department of Broadcasting and Journalism faculty member Jasmine Crighton was recently awarded two advisor of the year honors from national media organizations for her work at Western Illinois University.

Crighton was awarded the Jeff Tellis Outstanding Advisor Award for College Television by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System March 3. The award recognizes outstanding leadership, dedication and service to college television stations. Crighton is news coordinator of NEWS3, the student-produced television newscast at WIU.

On the same evening, Crighton was also recognized as Advisor of the Year by the National Broadcasting Society for her work with WIU's NBS-AERho chapter.

Crighton earned her Master of Arts in Journalism and Media Studies at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, where she also taught courses in television production. She received an Emmy for outstanding technical director for a March 2008 broadcast at FOX5 KVVU.

Before coming to Western, Crighton taught broadcasting at West Liberty University and later worked as the producer of WTOV9's morning newscast in Steubenville, OH.

In 2017, Crighton was elected to the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Mid-America Board of Governors. She also serves as recording secretary to the Illinois News Broadcasters Association.
