General Counsel Search Update

MACOMB, IL -- Two additional candidates for the position of general counsel/University attorney at Western Illinois University will interview Monday-Tuesday, June 18-19 and Thursday-Friday, June 21-22.

Elizabeth Duvall, a partner with March, McMillan, Hennefent, DeJoode, Duvall, James & Humbert P.C., in Macomb, will interview June 18-19. Patricia Sexton, an attorney consultant in Chicago, will interview June 21-22.

An open session will be held with each candidate on the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses. The WIU-QC open session with Duvall will be held from 9-10 a.m. Monday, June 18 in Riverfront Hall 218, while the Macomb campus open session will be held from 11 a.m.-noon Tuesday, June 19 in the University Union Capitol Rooms. The QC campus open session with Sexton will be held Thursday, June 21 in Riverfront 218 and the Macomb campus open session will be held in the University Union Board Room from 11 a.m.-noon Friday, June 22.

Duvall has been a partner at the Macomb law firm since January 2005. She has also served as an instructor in the College of Business and Technology at Western since January 2017.

Duvall earned her juris doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law and her bachelor's degree from Knox College.

Sexton has served as an attorney consultant in the Chicago metro area since March 2016. Previously, she was the deputy general consul/assistant secretary for UCI-FRAM Auto Brands in Lake Forest, IL from September 2011-March 2016. She has also served as corporate counsel for Allstate Motor Club, Inc. in Barrington (2010-2011, 2009-2010); associate general counsel for G.E. Money in Schaumburg (2008, 2006, 2003-2004); senior corporate counsel for Computershare Investor Services, LLC in Chicago (2008, 2005); licensing attorney for The Bradford Group in Niles (1998-2003); and associate attorney for Accenture (Anderson Consulting LLP) in Chicago (1996-1998).

Sexton earned her juris doctorate from DePaul University College of Law and her bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois.

The University attorney serves as the University's Freedom of Information Act Officer and Ethics Officer, and also represents the University in all legal matters involving external administrative agencies. The attorney advises the executive administration and Board of Trustees regarding legal matters and compliance; advises and assists departments responsible for compliance and employment matters; and drafts and reviews all contracts concerning the University on a wide range of issues, including employment, real estate and leases, construction, insurance and procurement.
