MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees approved the continuation of WIU President Jack Thomas' contract at its August 24 Board meeting on the Macomb campus.

Thomas' contract has been in place since 2011 when he was named president, and that contract will continue to govern, according to BOT Chair Carolyn Ehlert-Fuller. There will be no changes to Thomas' salary or benefits.

"This has been a difficult year for all at WIU, and we appreciate that President Thomas has held steady throughout. We awaited completion of the academic reorganization plan and we are pleased with its content and announcement on July 16. Now we look for a very aggressive and timely implementation to be led by President Thomas," stated Ehlert-Fuller. "Further, the Board and the president will focus on a strong year of engaging in a comprehensive, rigorous assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of both campuses, which is needed to fully understand what more is necessary to move forward successfully. This examination will attempt to leave no stone unturned.

"We look for a year of stability in getting things done," Ehlert-Fuller added.

The next regular meeting of the Board of Trustees will be held Sept. 27-28 in Macomb.
