MACOMB, IL -- Want to check Western Illinois University happenings? Calculate a grade? Get academic help? All this and much, much more are available in the easy-to-use new app, "MyWestern," available in Apple's App Store for all "i" products.

Under the direction of Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research (CITR) Director Roger Runquist, CITR graduate assistants Harish Jujjavarapu and Balakrishna Uppathi created the app, that was built by CITR.

"We know students have been asking for a one-stop-shop app that would give them almost any bit of information they wanted about, and at, Western. We designed this app to help students quickly locate these resources," said Runquist.

The information available in the app has been categorized using web links so students can discover even more resources than they originally thought existed, he added. In addition, there are custom-built resources, so once a student logs in, the 'MyWestern' app is customized for them, with such links as their class schedule, links to email their professors and links to tutoring sessions that are available for their classes or disciplines. [Editor's Note: This custom feature will not appear for faculty/staff.]

"MyWestern" has been in development for approximately six months, following feedback and discussion from the Spring 2018 President's Roundtable for Students.

"We tried to connect the dots with some latest technologies like Ionic 3 and Angular 5 to create 'MyWestern,'" Runquist added. "We can write and deploy the same code for iOS, Android, Windows mobiles simultaneously through hybrid app development. We are already working on a new version of the app to customize the student experience even further."
