Western Illinois University's Diversity Council affirms that diversity and inclusion are indispensable elements of our institutional core values: Academic Excellence, Educational Opportunity, Personal Growth and Social Responsibility. The Council's purpose is to enhance the institution's commitment to accessibility for all persons, which requires active support for continued positive change.

As recently communicated to our University community and beyond, a group that does not align with our institutional views and beliefs will stage a public demonstration on University property Saturday, Nov. 17. The Diversity Council is committed to working with others to promote positive messages in support of our LGBTQA+ community and an inclusive environment for all members of the University community.

There is great power in community building and working with others. This process allows us to build further unity through coalition and the sharing of solutions. Collectively, we can join forces to create spaces for important dialogue and the promotion of peace and good will, while treating one another with dignity and respect despite differences that may exist.

Thank you for your support and commitment to social justice.

For the Council,

Chocoletta Simpson, Co-Chair
Ron Williams, Co-Chair
