Ten WIU students attended the Great Lakes Affiliate of Colleges and University Residence Halls (GLACURH) Leadership Conference earlier this month.

WIU Named School of the Year at GLACURH Conference

MACOMB, IL – Representatives of Western Illinois University attended the Great Lakes Affiliate of Colleges and University Residence Halls (GLACURH) Leadership Conference at Oakland University Nov. 16-18. During the event, WIU was named School of the Year.

WIU's Inter-Hall Council (IHC) sent 10 students to the conference to learn from peers across the Great Lakes Region about the operations on various campuses. WIU students who attended include: Koyo Masore, a junior mathematics major from Streamwood, IL; Brooke Barnes, a freshman pre-nursing major from Plainfield; Derek Lahey, a senior supply chain management from Mechanicsburg, IL; Matt Zumwalt, a senior geography and geographic information science major from Litchfield; Tea Wheat, a junior pre-elementary education major from Brookfield; Kat Davis, a sophomore pre-elementary education major from Aurora, IL; Shelby Mech, a junior pre-business major from Poplar Grove, IL; John Porn, a sophomore computer science major from Plainfield, IL; Alex Brown, a junior law enforcement and justice administration (LEJA) major from Lake Zurich; and Nathan Simon, a junior LEJA manor from Bethalto, IL. 

At the conference, Lahey, national communication coordinator for IHC, and Zumwalt, president of NRHH, presented a bid for School of the Year, the region's highest award Killian Tracy (IHC president) Wheat (resident assistant), Lahey (NCC) and Zumwalt wrote a multiple page bid talking about the great changes and improvements WIU has made over the course of the year. At the conference, WIU was chosen the winner of the award.

Mech (RA), Davis (RA) and Wheat (RA) were selected to present a program at the conference. Mech and Davis were selected by peers as a top 10 program at the conference. This was Davis's first time presenting.

Lahey (NCC) also wrote an "Of the Month" (OTM) for Nathan Simon (IHC/Student Government Association Representative) that won at the regional and national level.
