Miller Services Set

MACOMB, IL – Services for Western Illinois University Sociology Professor Emeritus David L. Miller, 74, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Jan. 4 at St. Paul Church in Macomb. Visitation will be held at the church from 5-7 p.m. Thursday Jan. 3, with a Wake Service at 7 p.m.

Miller joined the sociology department in 1972, and retired in 2002. He enjoyed working with, and in the company of, the fourth floor Morgan Hall professors and staff. His area of expertise was "collective behavior."

In the mid-eighties, he lived in London, England for a year where he taught for the Western's S.A.I.L. program and did research at the University of Leicester, U.K., for his textbook "Collective Behavior." He also traveled to the Yucatan with WIU archaeologists.

Miller was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Macomb and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a fourth degree Knight of Columbus.

Miller earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa, his master's from the University of Columbia, South Carolina, and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.

He is survived by his wife, Kitty, son Benjamin, daughter Catherine Miller-Hunt, four grandchildren, one sister and many nieces and nephews.
