MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University will host the 46th annual International Bazaar from 5-10 p.m. Saturday, March 2 in the University Union Grand Ballroom.

The popular event showcases the cultures of international students attending WIU.

Samples of authentic food from numerous countries will be sold for $1-$2.50 each. Food tickets will be available at the bazaar.

"I believe the bazaar is the display of cultural diversity. It is the celebration of cultural values, heritage and values," said International Friendship Club Vice President Opeyemi Oduniyia, a graduate student in biology, from Nigeria. "Diffusion between the domestic and international community without borders and limits with unlimited fun and food to devour."

Music and traditional clothing from around the world will be showcased as well.

"It feels so good when you are performing in another country," said International Friendship Club Marketing Chair Hemangi Mhatre, a graduate student in computer science from Mumbai. "It's kind of a proud feeling that you are showcasing your culture or dance form to another country's people."

Cultures represented at this year's event include China, Costa Rica, India, Jamaica, Mali, Nigeria, South Korea and Turtle Island. Other organizations hosting booths at the event include Japanime (the University's Japan/anime club), the Organization of Arab Students, the Peace Corps, Casa Latina, the Office of Study Abroad and Outreach and Phi Beta Delta.

A Kids Craft Corner and an international marketplace, selling souvenirs and goods from all over the globe, will be open from 5-8 p.m.

Admission to the bazaar is $2 for WIU students; $5 for non-students; $2 for children ages 5-12 and children ages 4 and under are admitted free.

This year's International Bazaar is sponsored by the WIU Center for International Studies, the Council on Student Activity Funds and the International Friendship Club.
