Hartnett Named Human Resources Director

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Amelia Hartnett, interim director of human resources, has been named the director of human resources at Western Illinois University, effective March 1.

Hartnett has served as interim director of human resources at WIU since November 2018. She had been appointed HR assistant director in March 2018. Hartnett has also served as a human resource manager at WIU (December 2016-March 2018) and as a human resource specialist, human resource officer and human resource representative (2014-2016). She has also worked on campus as an office manager in the Women's Center (2010-2014) and office support specialist in the Department of Psychology (2009-2010). Hartnett has also served as an administrative aide in psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago (2006-2009).

"Amelia's experience in human resources, as well as her familiarity with Western's employment and benefits structure and the State Universities Civil Service Systems will allow her to continue the department's longstanding commitment to service and support," said Bill Polley, interim vice president for administrative services.

Hartnett received her MLAS from WIU, a graduate certificate in Human Resource Management from the University of Illinois at Springfield and her bachelor's degree from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Western's human resources staff coordinates classification, compensation, diversity outreach, employee and labor relations and employment and examination for classified staff and directs the benefits and employee assistance program for all WIU employees.

As human resource director, Hartnett will also serve as the University's representative to the State Universities Civil Service System and State Universities Retirement System, and she will be responsible for ensuring University compliance with state and federal employment statutes, laws and regulations.
