Intercollegiate Athletics Director Interviews

MACOMB, IL – Four candidates for the director of Intercollegiate Athletics at Western Illinois University will be on campus for interviews Tuesday, March 19, Thursday, March 21, Thursday, March 28 and Monday, April 1.

Candidates include Danielle Surprenant, interim director of WIU athletics (March 19); Paul Bubb, WIU executive director of development (March 21); Michael Moore, director of athletic development, Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (March 28 and Stephen Robertello, special assistant to the vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, California State University (April 1).

An open meeting will be held with each candidate in Western Hall's Hall of Fame Room from 4-4:30 p.m.

Surprenant was named interim director of WIU Athletics May 2018. Previously, she was the senior associate athletic director for internal operations and senior woman administrator from 2017-2018. Before coming to WIU, Surprenant was the associate athletic director for compliance and internal operations and senior woman administrator at Quincy University (2010-2017) and as academic adviser for student athlete development at Stony Brook University (2009-2010).

She holds a master's degree in recreation and sport management from Indiana State University and a bachelor's degree in marketing and management from Saint Francis (PA).

Bubb has served as the executive director of development at WIU since February 2018. Previously, he was the associate athletic director for development at Cal Poly Pomona from 2015-2017. Bubb has also served as the director of development at Cal Poly (2015-2016); associate athletic director for external affairs at Murray State University (2008-2014); director of athletics (2005-2008), senior associate athletic director (2004) and assistant athletic director for development (2003) at Idaho State University; interim director of athletics (2002-2003) and senior associate director of athletics (2001-2002) at the University of Maine; assistant director of the Bronco Athletic Association at Boise State University (1999-2001); and director of athletics (1995-1998), associate athletic director (1992-1995) and director of athletic development (1990-1992) at Cal State Northridge.

Bubb earned his master's degree in sport management from WIU and his bachelor's degree in history at Monmouth College.

Moore has served as director of athletics development at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale since February 2017. Previously, he was the director of athletics, at Indiana University-Purdue University from 1996-2015, as well as director of athletic development in 1996. Moore has also served as the senior associate director of athletics and development (1988-1996) and the assistant athletics director (1983-1988) at the University of Evansville (1988-1996) and assistant director of the Wildcat Club at Davidson College (NC) (1981-1983).

Moore earned his master's degree in sport administration and his bachelor's degree in history from Ohio University.

Robertello has served as special assistant to the vice president for student affairs and enrollment management, California State University-Fresno (CSU) since August 2018. Previously, he was the interim director of athletics at CSU-Fresno from November 2017-July 2018. He also was the deputy director of athletics (2015-2017), co-interim director of athletics (2014-2015), senior associate director of athletics/intercollegiate services (2014) and associate director of athletics/intercollegiate services (2012-2013) at CSU-Fresno. Robertello has also served, at Washington State University, as the associate director of athletics/compliance (2006-2012), assistant director of athletics/compliance (2004-2006) and director of compliance (2002-2004). He has also worked in compliance at Arizona State University and Villanova University.

Robertello received his master's in sport management and his bachelor's degree from West Virginia University.

The director of Intercollegiate Athletics directs and supervises the administration of athletics and all administrative operations and business functions of the program in accordance with the policies and procedures of the institution, NCAA and the Summit League and Missouri Valley Football conferences.
