MACOMB, IL—The Western Illinois University Veterans Resource Center has secured the public performance rights for the film, "The Invisible War."

The film, which was first released in 2012, focuses on the epidemic of sexual assault that takes place within the military.

Alexis Vernon, a senior social work major from Milton, WI, and the social work intern for the Veterans Resource Center, said it is important to be educated about this issue.

"Sexual assault is still a highly relevant topic, which is why we wanted to make sure this film is available on campus," said Vernon. " The 'Me Too' movement has helped bring these issues to light, but often we don't mention the instances of sexual assault that take place in the military."

The Veterans Resource Center will be showing "The Invisible War" at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 30 in the Sandburg Theatre. After the showing, an educational panel with counselors and professionals will be held, which will focus on how to support survivors and how to help end sexual assault.
