MACOMB, IL – The 13th annual "Stuff the Bus, Get Off Your Cans" food drive will be held from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 10.

A bus will be parked in Sherman Circle from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to hold donation drop-offs. Donations will be sorted at the Sherman Circle location through the day, then delivered to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry at Macomb's First Presbyterian Church at 5 p.m. April 10. Donations will also be delivered to the Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) Community Action Agency and the WIU Food Pantry on campus.

Also on April 10, tables will be set up outside the Macomb Walmart and Hy-Vee stores from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Jackson Street Market will collect donations from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Purple donation boxes will also be located at the Corbin-Olson and Thompson Dining Centers.

Volunteers will work two-hour shifts at the tables, asking for donations. The campaign will also have volunteers on campus to collect donations from the variety of departments where donation boxes are placed.

A new component of the drive is Pie in the Face! For one non-perishable food item or $1 bill, donors can pie a dining manager in the face from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at the Corbin-Olson or Thompson Dining Centers. Donors can do this throughout the day April 10 at Sherman Circle as well. All proceeds go to Stuff the Bus.

In addition, the Macomb Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant will host a fundraising event, sponsoring specialized coupons for the cause, from 4-8 p.m. Monday, April 8, with 15 percent of proceeds going to the Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry. Those who would like to participate must have the required coupon with them, either printed out or downloaded electronically.

The Macomb Hy-Vee will also host a fundraising event, sponsoring specialized coupons for the cause, all day April 10, with 10 percent of the proceeds going to the Stuff the Bus. Those who would like to participate must have the required coupon printed with them.

For those who are not sure what to donate, there will be designated Stop Hunger paper bags filled with delicious goods just in time for Easter available for purchase at Walmart, Hy-Vee and Jackson St. Market.

Since 2008, the local food drive has collected more than 100,000 pounds of food, which has, in turn, been given to local food pantries. Last year, the drive collected 3,583 non-perishable food items and nearly $1,580. This year the goal is to double those efforts.
