MACOMB, IL – Funeral services for Western Illinois University Grounds Foreman Fred M. Adair will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 5 at the First Baptist Church in Macomb. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, April 4 at Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home.

Adair died Saturday, March 30 at his home.

He began working at WIU in 1967 and after briefly living in Florida in 1974, he returned to the University as a grounds worker and equipment operator. He was promoted to landscape maintenance grounds foreman in 1992 and oversaw all of the fields on campus, including Hanson Field (football/track and field), Mary Ellen McKee Stadium (softball), John MacKenzie Alumni Field (soccer), Boyer Stadium (baseball), three football practice fields and one soccer practice field. He also supervised the practice fields for the St. Louis Rams when the team's training camp was held in Macomb.

Adair retired from the University in 2011, after 44 years of service, and in 2013, he was inducted into the WIU Athletic Hall of Fame as a contributor.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; his daughter, Tressa; sons, Tye and Tracey; and six grandchildren.
