WIU Move-In Aug. 16-17; Fall Classes Begin Aug. 19

MACOMB, IL – It's almost that time … move-in weekend at Western Illinois University! New and returning students will begin moving into the residence halls this weekend, beginning Friday, Aug. 16. Classes begin Monday, Aug. 19.

Move-in at the WIU residence halls for new freshmen and transfer students begins at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16. Returning students can move into the residence halls Aug. 16-18. The complete guide to move-in information can be found at wiu.edu/movein.

The New Student Convocation will be held for students and their families at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16 in Western Hall. During the brief, informal program, speakers from the University and community will welcome new undergraduate students and their families to campus. Immediately following, Acting President Martin Abraham and Macomb Mayor Mike Inman will host the annual family picnic for new students and their families on the campus mall, southwest of the Spencer Student Recreation Center.

"Rocky After Dark: First Night Fun," a free event for students, will begin at 8:30 p.m. on Hanson Field.

"I look forward to meeting everyone during move-in weekend, and getting out on campus during the semester to meet as many students, faculty and staff as possible," Abraham said. "There are so many great experiences here at Western, and I'm excited to share these with you."

A new event, 'Neck Up the Square, hosted by the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Development and WIU will be held around the Downtown Courthouse Square from 4-7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23. The Student Activities Fair, featuring WIU's more-than-250 student organizations, departments, volunteer opportunities, campus resources and community services and products, will be held from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 in the campus mall area outside of the University Union.
