MACOMB, IL -- The Council of Academic Advisors Awards and Recognition Committee at Western Illinois University announced recently that Academic Advisor Kelly Morris has been named Advisor of the Month for September.

Morris, who works in the University Advising and Academic Services Center, was nominated by two of her students.

"Kelly definitely pushes me to be the absolute best I can be every school year," said one student. "When I'm feeling like I can't persevere, she helps me to get back focused."

Her second nominator said Morris goes beyond caring for the students she advises.

"I have definitely built a special bond with Kelly as far as her being my advisor," the second student said. "Even though it's my second year, she still allows me to make weekly meetings with her just to make sure I stay on top of things. She cares about my grades and how I'm doing academically and that really influences me to care myself. She is definitely the strong influence I need to finish my years off and I greatly appreciate her being there for me in all times."

Each month, a WIU advisor is honored with a certificate and trophy. Award winners are decided by a committee that considers each of the applications for the month.
