MACOMB, IL – Casa Latina will hold its final event of Latinx Heritage Month, "Redefining Latinx Standards," at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 in the Western Illinois University Multicultural Center.

The purpose of the event is to discuss what the current "standards" are in the Latinx community/culture. This is an important discussion for Latinx Heritage Month because it's a way of recognizing the meaningful traditions and customs in the culture, as well as identifying where improvements can be made.

"Redefining Latinx Standards is important because Latinx history and culture is beautiful; however, there is some toxicity behind it, whether it be the machismo, colorism or even the controlling and strict parenting." said Noe Jurado, a senior art major from Aurora, IL, a student leader at WIU and educational chair of AMPLIFY. "So join us as we unpack and redefine these Latinx standards."

The event is being hosted by AMPLIFY.
