MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance is partnering with the city of Macomb's Downtown Development office to bring an addition to this year's Dickens on the Square holiday celebration.

This year's Dickens on the Square is themed "A Magical Holiday" and will be enhanced by additional lighting, done by WIU Assistant Professor of Lighting Design Josh Wroblewski and some of his students. The WIU group will design a lighting concept for the historic McDonough County Courthouse, which will be unveiled from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. The design will change every half hour to music.

The project is part of a competition, hosted by SGM Lighting, Inc., to light and execute a design on an exterior of a building in town. Photos of the designs will be submitted to win lighting equipment for the Universitiy.

"The Department of Theatre and Dance continually works to develop practical applications through research and demonstration of new technologies that positively affect the student and the community," said WIU Department of Theatre and Dance Chair Tammy Killian. "Through this opportunity, our students will experience firsthand the power of engaging the community with their art. Thank you to all who are involved."
