MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Psychology will host a table fair Friday, Nov. 22 for graduate students looking for internship opportunities in school psychology.

Nationally, there is a shortage of school psychologists, particularly in rural parts of the country. As a result, many school districts and special education cooperatives in Iowa and Illinois have contacted the WIU Department of Psychology to inquire about the availability of school psychology interns, with the hope that the graduating students will stay on to fill existing positions.

Because of the large number of requests the department has received, the decision was made to host a table fair so prospective employers can interact with students.

The table fair will include representatives from 11 agencies, who will set up in Waggoner Hall, room 171. Agencies or schools attending the fair are:

• Special Education Association of Adams County, Quincy, IL
• Tazewell Mason Counties Special Education Association, Pekin, IL
• Pekin Public Schools District 108, Pekin, IL
• Joliet Public Schools, District 86, Joliet, IL
• Tri-County Special Education Association, Bloomington, IL
• BMP Special Education Cooperative, Princeton IL
• Special Education Cooperative of Peoria County, Bartonville, IL
• Four Rivers Special Education District, Jacksonville, IL
 • Galesburg CUSD #205, Galesburg, IL
• Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency, Bettendorf, IA
• Prairie Lakes AEA, Webster City, IA

WIU Psychology Instructor Ruth Kelly is coordinating the event. The varied participants demonstrates the value of the WIU school psychology program to the region. Some of the individuals representing sites are alumni of the WIU program.
