Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9 at Dodsworth. Hare, 82, passed away Dec. 4 in Quincy.

Hare joined the WIU Department of Physics as an instructor in Fall 1968, and was promoted to assistant professor in 1972. Hare was the co-creator of the department's science demonstration program for children and always made a guest appearance as "Albert Einstein." Before joining the WIU faculty, he taught physics at Turner Junior High in Jacksonsville, District 201-U in Crete and District 227 in Park Forest.

While a student at Western Illinois State Teachers College (WISTC), Hare was a member of the WISTC Marching Band from 1955-59, under the Department of Music's first official Director of Bands, Forrest Suycott.

Hare received his bachelor's degree in physics education in 1959, and his master's degree in physics education in 1960, both from Western. Hare also took doctoral-level physics classes at Yale University's Summer Institute in the areas of atomic, nuclear and solid state physics, William and Mary, University of Wyoming and Mankato State University.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen, sons Kevin and Kirk, six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Western Illinois Marching Band or the Parkinson's Foundation.
