MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance will present "Crimes of the Heart," by Beth Henley, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14-15, in Simpkins Theatre.

The play is directed by WIU Associate Professor Carolyn Blackinton.

"I have wanted to direct this wonderful play for years and I am so blessed to be working with such a talent group of people" said Blackinton. "The design team has been fantastic and the actors have brought to life this very touching and funny play."

The show is set in Hazlehurst, MS, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await the news of their family patriarch, their grandfather, and his last hours. The sisters include Lenny, the oldest and unmarried, Meg, the middle child who left her hometown to fail at a singing career, and Babe, the youngest out on bail for shooting her husband.

The play depicts their troubles, which are serious, yet met with humor through their family coming together to keep Babe out of jail, while also being embroiled in a complicated love story between Babe and her lawyer. The show will leave its audience feeling touched as one watches the young characters escape their pasts to seize their futures.

General admission tickets are $5; and free for WIU students with valid student identification.
