Stay at Home Order Extended: State of Illinois

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- On April 1, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed an executive order to extend the stay at home order for the state through Thursday, April 30.

Per the initial stay at home order, which went into effect at 5 p.m., March 21, WIU classes transitioned to online delivery March 21, and the majority of WIU employees began working remotely, as required. The remote work measures will continue per the extended stay at home order, while all WIU classes will remain online for the remainder of the semester.

Faculty and staff should not be on campus unless absolutely necessary. Employees who must be on the Macomb and Quad Cities campuses must follow established protocols at all times.

Students who are not on campus, and have not yet moved their belongings out of WIU residence halls, cannot return to campus until the stay at home order expires. If those students currently living on campus choose to move out or return to their home at any time during the stay at home order, for the safety of those remaining on campus, they cannot return to campus until the order expires. For housing questions and information, email uhds@wiu.edu.

Initial Stay at Home Order: State of Illinois

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Today, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued a stay at home order for the state, effective 5 p.m. March 21 through Tuesday, April 7. At Western Illinois University, the majority of employees will begin working at home as required.

As Western transitions to online courses tomorrow (Saturday, March 21) and some students are residing on campus, there are personnel at the University to ensure operations continue and student support is provided. Food service and custodial operations, among other select services, will remain available for the University community.

Effective Monday, March 23, all academic buildings and the Malpass Library and branch libraries on both the Macomb and Moline campuses will be closed. Select personnel will work staggered hours on campus to provide services such as law enforcement, medical care, technology, housing, food services, admissions-related needs and financial aid, among others. Employees will be contacted by their supervisor with further instructions, as needed. Faculty who require access to University facilities must contact their department chair or director to make arrangements.

"Students can remain on campus. They will be safe, will have food and care available and will be able to complete their studies," said WIU Interim President Martin Abraham.

Students who have signed up to move out are not allowed to return to campus until the shelter in place expires. Those students remaining on campus will be required to abide by all State of Illinois mandates. For housing questions and information, email uhds@wiu.edu.
