WIU Horn Festival Transitions to Online Format

MACOMB, IL — This year's Western Illinois University annual Horn Festival will be held through an online format.

Since 2002, the Western Horn Festival has been an annual, in-person event, hosted by the WIU School of Music and the WIU Horn Studio.

In light of social distancing guidelines, WIU Assistant Professor Jena Gardner has collaborated with guest artists, the Cobalt Quartet, and many others in the horn community, to present a full day of participatory and educational content.

The schedule of the day's events includes:

• 9-10 a.m. - "Group" Warm-up with Assistant Professor Jena Gardner

• 10-11 a.m. - Meet the Performers, interview with Cobalt Quartet

• 11 a.m.-noon - Horn Maintenance with Musical Instrument Specialist Chad Walker

• Noon-1 p.m. - "Just Breathe: Understanding and Overcoming Performance Anxiety" with Robert Palmer

• 1-3 p.m. - Western Horn Festival Masterclass with Cobalt Quartet

• 3-3:30 p.m. - Meditation with Illinois State University Associate Professor Rachel Hockenberry

• 3:30-4 p.m. – "Breathing for Horn Players" with Texas State University Associate Professor Caroline Steiger

• 4-4:30 p.m. – "Horn Fundamentals 101" with University of Tennessee, Knoxville Associate Professor Katie Johnson-Webb

• 4:30 p.m. - Horn Choir Play Along with Cobalt Quartet

All events will be streamed on Central Time and participants can stream each session on the WIU Horn Studio Facebook page at facebook.com/WIUHorn/, and through YouTube at youtube.com/channel/UCZ4ZMSbNOg_tEfqJD-67LKg.
