John M. Werner Obituary

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Western Illinois University History Professor Emeritus John M. Werner passed away Wednesday, July 8, in Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 13, at Trimble Funeral Home in Moline, and will be live-streamed at facebook.com/TrimbleFuneralHome. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 11 a.m. Monday.

Werner began working at WIU in September 1969 and retired in July 2003. He taughter American and military history, served as chair of the Faculty Senate, and as an advisor to the Army ROTC, and published "Reaping the Bloody Harvest: Race Riots in the U.S. During the Age of Jackson."

He is survived by his wife, Donna; four children, Mary Beth, John, Katie and Maggie; three grandchildren, Angela, Justine and Zane; and one sister, Nancy.
