Budget and Finance, Enrollment Management Administrative Announcements

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Teresa Smith began her role Sept. 8 as Western Illinois University's interim Chief Financial Officer and interim associate vice president for budget and finance, while Gary Swegan will continue to serve as interim associate vice president of enrollment management at Western Illinois University.

Smith, who has served as an independent higher education consultant since 2013, was hired with the assistance of AGB Interim Search. She will serve for the remainder of the fiscal year. A national search will be held at a later date. Former Associate Vice President Letisha Trepac has accepted a position elsewhere.

Smith has held recent interim CFO and consulting assignments at MacMurray College, Newberry College (South Carolina), Presbyterian College (South Carolina) and Northern Arizona University. Before becoming an independent consultant, Smith was the vice president for administration and CFO at Tallahassee (FL) Community College (TCC) from 2008-2015, and as the interim vice president for information technology at TCC from 2009-2012. She also served as the senior vice president (2005-2008) vice president for administration (1999-2006), vice president for business affairs (1996-1999) and CFO/comptroller (1994-1995) and director of finance (1991-1994) at Piedmont Technical College. Smith has also worked as a controller and financial analyst in the private sector.

Swegan will serve in his role until a permanent replacement is selected. A national search for an associate vice president of enrollment management is expected. He has served as the interim associate vice president of WIU's new enrollment management division since January 2020. Other personnel in the enrollment management division include Director of Admissions and Enrollment Services Doug Freed; Interim Director of Transfer Services Kassie Daly; Interim Executive Director of Retention Justin Schuch; and Interim Director for Financial Aid Bobbi Smith.
