MACOMB, IL – As the winter season will soon be upon west-central Illinois, Western Illinois University is ready for winter maintenance, including priority snow removal. While Western Illinois University Facilities Management (FM) landscape maintenance staff will remove ice and snow from all campus walkways, designated pedestrian areas and parking lots on the priority route are cleared first.

The priority routes are a result of the coordinated efforts of Facilities Management and the WIU Disability Resource Center (DRC). According to Landscape Maintenance Superintendent Tara Heath, during snow events, landscape maintenance staff will clear priority routes first, and will continue to work on the priority routes to maintain accessibility, before clearing other areas of campus. Western Avenue, Adams Street and University Drive are owned and maintained by the City of Macomb.

To report issues with snow removal, contact Facilities Management at (309) 298-1834. For more information on the priority snow removal route, contact Heath at (309) 298-1834 or TS-Heath@wiu.edu. For more information on campus accessibility, contact the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access at (309) 298-1977 or the Disability Resource Center at (309) 298-2512.
