WIU Military Students Meet and Greet Sept. 9

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - In recognition of the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, Western Illinois University's Veterans Resource Center (VRC) will host a Meet and Greet for all military students from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9 at the Wright Residence on the WIU Macomb campus (333 N. Ward St.).
Western military students are invited to connect with VRC staff and special WIU guests to learn more about benefits and reflect on a common bond.
"We would like to honor the recent deaths that have occurred both locally and in Afghanistan over the last month," said VRC Director Ronald Pettigrew. "In addition to flying flags in the 14 days leading up to our event to honor the 14 lives recently lost, which include a state university police officer, 11 Marines, one Sailor and one Army soldier, as representative of the larger number of deaths within our nation's longest war, we have invited local police and fire departments to participate in the ceremony."
