WIU School of Music Welcome Artists in Residence Sept. 19

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University School of Music will present "Artists in Residence," David Cooper, horn, and Gaby Vargas, flute, Sunday, Sept. 19 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication Recital Hall.

Cooper is the principal horn of the Chicago Symphony, and Vargas, a WIU alumna, is a flute soloist.

Cooper was previously the principal horn of the Dallas Symphony and of the Berlin Philharmonic. Vargas, a native of San Jos, Costa Rico, has been a featured soloist with the Orquesta Sinfnica Nacional de Costa, the WIU Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago College of Performing Arts Wind Ensemble.

The two will host a flute and horn masterclass with WIU students and a guest recital, featuring School of Music Director Jeff Brown on piano, at 4:30 p.m.

Attendance at the events is $20 and is limited. Reservations are required and can be completed at bit.ly/2XfNAv4.

Guests must complete the WIU COVID self-check before arriving on campus. Masks must be work at all times and social distancing must be observed in the COFAC Recital Hall and surrounding lobby.
