Ten Second Lieutenants Commissioned at WIU

MACOMB, IL -- Ten Western Illinois University Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets were commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army Friday, May 13, during Commencement weekend.

The cadets took the oath of office from Colonel Jesse T. Curry, commander and district engineer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. After this commissioning ceremony, the Leatherneck Battalion has commissioned 1,121 second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, throughout its history.

The 10 WIU cadets who took the oath of office of a commissioned officer include:

Eric B. Brands, of Bartlett, IL, received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement and justice administration. He will commission into the active-duty Army and serve as an infantry officer.

Sean E. Bridges, of Warrenville, IL, received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement and justice administration. He will commission into the active-duty Army and serve as an air defense artillery officer.

Patrick T. Hanrahan, of Oak Lawn, IL, received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement and justice administration. He will commission into the active-duty Army and serve as an infantry officer.

Shontanae K. Johnson, of Cahokia, IL, received her bachelor's degree nursing. She will commission into the active-duty Army and serve as an officer in the Army Nurse Corps.

Mason B. Kaczmarek, of Bolingbrook, IL, received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement and justice administration. He will commission into the active-duty Army and serve as an infantry officer.

Rajat Kapoor, of Pekin, IL, received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement and justice administration. He will commission into the Illinois National Guard and serve as an infantry officer.

Nicholas L. Pauley, of Pingree Grove, IL, received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement and justice administration. He will commission into the active-duty Army and serve as an infantry officer.

Jeanluc C. Pos, of Naperville, IL, received his master of business administration (MBA) degree. He will commission into the active-duty Army and serve as a transportation corps officer.

Elizabeth I. Walton, of Mount Auburn, IL, received her bachelor's degree in recreation, park and tourism administration. She will commission into the Oregon National Guard and serve as an ordnance corps officer.

Trevor W. Woolson, of Warsaw, IL, received his bachelor's degree in history. He will commission into the Texas Army National Guard and serve as an armor officer.
