WIU Multicultural Center Director Search

MACOMB/MOLINE, IL – Two candidates for director of the Western Illinois University Multicultural Center have been chosen to interview on campus Tuesday, Jan. 24 and Monday, Jan. 30.
Candidates include WIU Physical Plant Foreman Byron K. Oden-Shabazz (Jan. 24) and WIU Associate Director of Recruitment and Outreach Katy Gorsuch (Jan. 30).
Oden-Shabazz has been a foreman for WIU's Physical Plant since 2021. Previously, he was a building services worker since 2004; a temporary Physical Plant foreman from 2010-12 and 2015-16; was resident services manager for the McDonough County Housing Authority from 2001-04; was extra help – custodial at WIU from 2000-01; and was a production line supervisor for Zeta plastics factory in Macomb in 1999.
Oden-Shabazz received his master's degree in sport management and his bachelor's degree in general studies from WIU.

Gorsuch has been associate director of recruitment and outreach since 2021. Previously, she was assistant director of campus events from June 2021-November 2021; adjunct faculty in Spanish at Carl Sandburg College from 2018-19; admissions counselor at WIU from October 2017-May 2021; a graduate assistant at WIU from 2015-16; and a campus assistant at Spoon River College from 2014-17.
Gorsuch received her master's degree in educational and interdisciplinary studies and her bachelor's degree in Spanish from WIU.
