MACOMB, IL - - Kathryn Cavins, associate vice president for student services at Western Illinois University, was recently named WesternÂ’s Council of Administrative Personnel (COAP) Employee of the Year for her role as facilitator of the UniversityÂ’s Strategic Planning Committee.

The annual award, presented by COAP in conjunction with the University president, recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of a COAP member who has far exceeded his or her usual duties.

"Kathy very ably steered the Strategic Planning Committee to a successful completion,” stated Vice President for Administrative Services Jackie Thompson in a letter of support. “This was a time-consuming and sometimes tedious task requiring her to balance a wide range of opinions and meld them into a great plan for WIU's future."

In her role as associate vice president for student services, Cavins oversees the Learning to Lead program, Office of Student Activities, Student Assistance Center, Student Development and Orientation and University Housing and Dining Services.

"Kathy spent a year and a half keeping this project on track and maintaining an acceptable timetable, all while doing her full-time high profile position," stated nominator Randy Powell, director of auxiliary services.

"The COAP Executive Council is very pleased to honor Dr. Cavins for all of her hard work and dedication,” said Dan Maxwell, director of student activities and 2004-2006 COAP president. “WIU is a better place for her commitment to our overall excellence.”
