MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University accountancy master's degree graduate Stacy Seuamsothabandith (Sue-AM-sew-thah-bandith) of Silvis recently won the $750 first place prize in the Central Illinois Chapter of Institute of Internal Auditors (CICIIA) 2003-2004 Student Manuscript Contest.

Seuamsothabandith, a client financial management analyst with Accenture's Chicago office, was recognized for her manuscript “An Examination of Enterprise Risk Management.” According to Penny Yunker, WIU accountancy department chair, the contest was designed to encourage internal auditing research among students at colleges and universities in central Illinois. Students were required to select one topic and prepare a literary research paper on a narrow aspect of the topic. In response to Enron and WorldCom's recent fraudulent financial reporting, the Committee of Sponsoring Organization (COSO) developed its Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Framework and Seuamsothabandith's paper discussed the need for a framework, as well as its benefits and limitations.

The CICIIA also awarded a $100 check to Western's accountancy department's Student Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants and the Zeta Beta Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi for their promotion of the manuscript contest and the internal auditing profession.
