MACOMB, IL – Fred Ebeid, chair of Western Illinois University’s marketing and finance department, has been named to a two-year appointment as dean of Western’s College of Business and Technology (CBT), effective July 26, announced Provost Joe Rallo.

Ebeid will replace David Beveridge who is retiring after 35 years at Western, including serving as CBT dean since 1995. Ebeid joined WesternÂ’s business faculty in 1970. He was named department chair in 1997.

As CBT dean, Ebeid will focus on implementing WesternÂ’s three-semester MBA program at the WIU-Quad Cities campus; creating an Executive Studies Center to meet the professional needs of the business community; initiating the process to ensure the upcoming accreditation reaffirmation report meets or exceeds accreditation expectations; conducting a review of CBT curriculum with special attention to infusing global topics; and engaging in national searches for permanent chairs for management, agriculture, accountancy, and marketing and finance. According to Rallo, a national search for a new CBT dean will begin no later than Fall 2005, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2006.

“Dr. Ebeid is an excellent choice to lead the College of Business and Technology during the next two years,” said Rallo. “He brings outstanding credentials and experience, as well as a global outlook, to the college as we work toward many of our strategic planning goals.”

At Western Illinois Ebeid has taught courses at the graduate and undergraduate level specializing in financial management, investments and personal financial planning. Ebeid has also been extensively involved in developing international travel and study programs for graduate and undergraduate students, and in designing and providing educational opportunities for undergraduate independent study. Prior to his employment in higher education, Ebeid worked for General Motors Corporation, Cadillac Motor Car Division, in accounting and financial analysis.

Ebeid has received numerous significant awards and honors during his tenure at WIU, including three distinguished national and international research paper awards and the CBT Excellence Award for Outstanding Teaching. He has also presented academic papers at professional conferences, published articles and reviewed and contributed to existing and proposed finance textbooks. Ebeid has served as a board member and president for the Academy of Finance, a member of the advisory board of the Midwest Business Administration Association, president of Phi Kappa Phi and member and University representative to the State Universities Retirement System Advisory Committee.

Ebeid received his bachelorÂ’s degree from the University of Michigan, his masterÂ’s degree from Wayne State University and his doctorate from the University of Illinois.
