MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University mathematics department faculty and members of the WIU Math TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) have dedicated their year to enriching the math skills of fourth through sixth grade students at Edison School in Macomb.

Mathematics associate professor James Olsen has been involved with the math enrichment program for five years. He and the Math TEAM, composed of Western Illinois students that aspire to be teachers, provide fun and engaging mathematics activities for Edison School students two afternoons each month.

“This is a great way to do some interesting hands-on activities to improve student understanding and attitudes about math,” Olsen said. “This program is also a great opportunity for Western students to reach out to the community and see how an after school enrichment program works.”

The Edison School math enrichment program is offered on the last two Wednesdays of each month from 3-4 p.m. For more information or to join the program, contact Olsen at
309/298-1466.
