Brakefield Named Management Chair at Western

MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University management professor James Brakefield has been appointed chair of Western’s management department, effective July 1, according to College of Business and Technology Dean Fred Ebeid. Brakefield has served as interim chair of the department since July 1, 2004.

Brakefield was hired in 1988 as an assistant professor of management. He was promoted to associate professor in 1992 and earned tenure in 1994. Four years later he was promoted to the rank of professor. His areas of expertise include human resource management, organizational behavior, employee turnover, managing diversity and human resources planning. Prior to joining WesternÂ’s faculty, Brakefield taught at the State University of New York at Buffalo and the University of West Florida.

“Dr. Brakefield’s selection was made after conducting an extensive national search,” Ebeid said. “I am confident that he will lead the department to its next level of academic excellence.”

He has authored and co-authored numerous articles for professional publications and has presented a variety of topics at professional conferences. Brakefield received WesternÂ’s Professional Achievement Award in Fall 2000 and received College of Business Outstanding Faculty Research Awards for service, teaching and research.

Brakefield earned his bachelorÂ’s and doctorate degrees at the State University of New York at Buffalo, and his masterÂ’s degree at the University of West Florida.
