Topic Change for Rob Benford's April 8 Lecture

MACOMB, IL - - Rob Benford, professor of sociology at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, will present “Husker Honeys, Buff Babes and Gang Bangers: Producing and Sustaining a Rape Culture on College Campuses” at 3 p.m. Friday, April 8 in the Western Illinois University Union Sandburg Theatre.

This is a change from Benford’s original topic “‘A Season for Change’: The Intercollegiate Sports Reform Movement for Academic Integrity.” Campus and community members are invited to the presentation.

Benford is president-elect of the Midwest Sociological Society and is on the Council of the Collective Behavior/Social Movements section of the American Sociological Association. He recently completed a five-year term as editor of the Journal of Contemporary Ethnography, an international, multidisciplinary publication. He also serves on the editorial boards of The Sociological Quarterly and the Journal of Applied Behavior Science. Benford taught at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1987-2000 before joining the SIUC faculty and serving as department chair from 2000-2003.
