WIU Hosts 30th Annual History Conference April 30

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University will host the 30th annual History Conference Saturday, April 30 in Stipes Hall on the Macomb campus.

Theodore Wilson, keynote speaker and professor at the University of Kansas since 1965, will present “More Than Allies, Less Than Kin: Yanks in Britain and Brits in America During World War II.” His 1:45 p.m. presentation will conclude the conference.

Wilson’s areas of interest include the history of American foreign relations, the World War II allied coalition and military history in general. He serves as general editor of the University Press of Kansas series Modern War Studies, which has published more than 130 original titles on military history and related subjects. He was also awarded the Society of American Historians’ Parkman Prize for his article, “The First Summit: Roosevelt and Churchill at Placentia Bay.”

Western’s history department invites anyone with an interest in history and current events to attend, including history and social studies teachers at all levels, secondary school and college students, history buffs and those who seek a better understanding of the present by learning more about the past.

Conference participants may choose form four WIU faculty and emeritus faculty presentations in the sessions scheduled at 9 a.m., 10:10 a.m. and 11:20 a.m. The list of sessions and topics is available at www.wiu.edu/history/confer/conmain29.htm

Registration -- $60 for professionals, $20 for full-time students including luncheon and $10 for full-time students without luncheon -- closes Monday, April 25.
