MACOMB, IL – Daily agricultural market reports will return to WWIR-TV at Western Illinois University beginning Monday, Sept. 19.

“The suggestion by Sharon Evans (chair of the broadcasting department) to present daily market reports was excellent,” said William Bailey, agriculture department chair. “Students in the department receive good training in understanding and analyzing agricultural markets. Giving the daily reports provide an opportunity for others to benefit from that education while providing a unique chance for agriculture students to work with other majors.”

The reports, to be aired during the WWIR 4 p.m. newscasts Monday through Thursday on Western’s Cable Channel 3, will be written and delivered by Anna Ziegler, a sophomore from LaHarpe (IL); Jason Crider, a sophomore from Arrowsmith (IL); and Nathan Young, a freshman from Erie (IL). The newscasts are also replayed at 11 p.m.

In addition to the agricultural reports, students from finance professor Jim Tripp’s classes will also provide stock market reports during the daily newscasts, said Evans.

“Not only is this a great way for students from other majors to get live television experience, it’s an excellent opportunity to provide a public service and also a unique opportunity for our students to learn from other students on campus,” Evans added.
