MACOMB, IL – Does your child long to be the next president of a global corporation or the CEO of an international company?

The Western Illinois Entrepreneurship Center (WIEC), a division of Western Illinois University, is offering a unique weeklong summer program for youth in grades nine through 12 that focuses on entrepreneurial opportunities and leadership in the global marketplace.

According to Sadiq Shah, WIEC director, the Global Entrepreneurial Leadership (GEL) Academy will offer students the opportunity to learn about how their future career ideas fit into a global society; how to gain and practice entrepreneurial and leadership skills; how to position themselves for the college admissions process; and how to prepare for success at college.

“The global marketplace offers such a broad spectrum of opportunities for our youth. It’s essential that they are ready to grasp those opportunities by gaining the necessary skills and knowledge,” Shad added.

Activities scheduled at the academy include prominent guest speakers, presentations and hands-on exercises, interaction with international college students and faculty at Western, skill-building, team-building programs and creation of a business plan.

“This program will give participants the competitive edge in the global job market beyond college,” Shah said. “This unique combination of global entrepreneurial leadership experience ensures a successful career in the 21st century.”

The weeklong camp, which includes room and board at the WIU-Macomb campus, is $1,500. Participants living in the region and wishing to commute daily may attend for $800. Applications are available from the WIEC at 309/836-2702 or online at www.wiuec.org. The application deadline is Feb. 28, 2006.
